Arran view, tough wood & off to New York tomorrow

Tomorrow I fly to New York, will be at Commission on Population & Development.
Please pray for me.

While on the beach I discovered this nice log.

Blunted 3 chains on my chainsaw, hardest log I ever tacked, it may be oak.
Yesterday I went to Prestwick shore to get a photo of the beautiful Isle of Arran.

Wood shed repair

Spend yesterday, Good Friday, cleaning out the wood-shed near the house. Fitted slats on the floor and painted it all with wood preservative. Got all the wood from an old pallet and straightened out some old nails to fix them to the floor. It only cost me the paint. Today I carted a full shed load of wood from the back garden into this shed. Then painted the other floor with preservative. Also, split some kindling. A very satisfying two days, good exercise.

A most excellent reservation by the Holy See at CSW62.

Statement by Mon. Tomasz Grysa made last Friday  23rd of March 2018.

Madam Chair,

My delegation would like to thank you, your team and the Bureau for your commitment to achieving consensus during this year’s informal negotiations of the Agreed Conclusions, which address the challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls.

In particular, my delegation commends the willingness of delegations to stress the need for authentic improvements in the welfare of rural women around the world, and the invaluable contributions of rural women and girls to their family, the economy, and society at large, which are still not adequately recognized. We are also pleased to see the promotion of policies and initiatives that support rural women in the context of the family.

My delegation acknowledges the great difficulties that arose in coming to consensus this year and would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Member States and Groups that worked diligently to reach the consensus. We thank in particular the facilitator for his thoughtful and decisive leadership throughout the process. I would like to emphasize that, in our understanding, the true consensus is fruit of real negotiations, free from pressure, based on trust and respect for the national sovereignty of all States.

In this regard, highly problematic remain the paragraphs on “sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights,” and on education for “sexual and reproductive health”. My delegation notes that these issues remain far from being consensual as they are still strongly contested by many States, and highlights the importance of considering these paragraphs in line with international law.

While affirming the intention and purpose of the conclusions before us, as outlined above, my delegation wishes to make reservations on the following concepts used therein:

1. The Holy See interprets the terms “, sexual and reproductive health,” “reproductive right” and “family planning” as applying to a holistic concept of health. We do not consider abortion, access to abortion, or access to abortifacients as a dimension of these terms. We do not
recognize the creation of any new rights or the promotion of radical individual autonomy in this regard, as fully laid out in our reservations registered at both Cairo and Beijing conferences. We do not understand reproductive rights, by any means, as a prerequisite for economic empowerment or development.

2. Regarding “education” or “information” on “sexual and reproductive health,” my delegation reaffirms the “primary responsibility” and the “prior rights” of parents in the education and upbringing of their children, as enshrined, inter alia, in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in the Convention of the Rights of the Child.

3. With reference to "gender", the Holy See understands the term to be grounded in biological sexual identity and difference. Regarding the concepts of “gender norms” and “gender stereotypes,” the Holy See does not recognize the idea that gender is socially constructed, but that is found in the objective identity of the human person born as male or female.

Thank you, Madam Chair.

End of CSW62

Above was the scene in Conf room 4 at the end of a very hard 2 weeks work.

If you would like to see how the English language can be totally assaulted please see the following two paragraphs.

Sex Education  para

oo. To develop policies and programmes with the support, where appropriate, of international organizations, civil society and non-governmental organizations, giving priority to formal, informal and non-formal education programmes, including scientifically accurate and age-appropriate comprehensive education, relevant to cultural contexts, that provides adolescent girls and boys and young women and men in and out of school, consistent with their evolving capacities, and with appropriate direction and guidance from parents and legal guardians, with the best interests of the child as their basic concern, information on sexual and reproductive health and HIV prevention, gender equality and women’s empowerment, human rights, physical, psychological and pubertal development and power in relationships between women and men, to enable them to build self-esteem and informed decision-making, communication and risk reduction skills and to develop respectful relationships, in full partnership with young persons, parents, legal guardians, caregivers, educators and health-care providers, in order to, inter alia, enable them to protect themselves from HIV infection and other risks;

Sexual & Reproductive Health parauu. Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights in accordance with the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Beijing Platform for Action and the outcome documents of their review conferences, including universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programmes, and recognizing that the human rights of women include their right to have control over and decide freely and responsibly on all matters related to their sexuality, including sexual and reproductive health, free of coercion, discrimination and violence, as a contribution to the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and the realization of their human rights;

Many thanks for all your prayer support, we ended up about the same as last year.

Big prayer request.

Dear Prayer supporter

We are just at the critical point in negotiations here at the Commission on the Status of \Women
( CSW ) . The outcome document concerns Rural Women & Girls. Am not sure if men exist or not here at the UN. There have been 62 CSWs but zero helping out men.

In the outcome document there is all the usual bad stuff on Sexual and Reproductive Health with the usual hidden abortion agenda . Also Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) or to be more accurate , Lessons in Depravity.

Then there is a new term being introduced see draft para 8 :

The Commission emphasizes the mutually reinforcing relationship among achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all rural women and girls in all their diversity, and the full, effective and accelerated implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the gender-responsive implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

There is great concern about all this diversity , we are not sure what this is but we do NOT like it.

It is snowing here in New York and the UN will be shut down soon.

So there will be negotiations all day tomorrow ( Thursday ) and late evening.

Then there will in all probability be a chairman's text on Friday.

If this chairman's text is bad please pray it will be rejected.

NO DOCUMENT IS BETTER THAN A BAD DOCUMENT.

Still at US mission , yesterday

We were just about to start a US briefing to all interested NGOs at CSW. This was an off the record meeting , just a "show pony ". We all had a good time and got to meet some of the political appointments in the new US administration , some very good people in this group. Once the meeting started we were asked not to take photos.

At US mission yesterday

Here I am on the 23rd floor of the US mission looking over at the UN Secretariat building and the East River.

At the UN again.

Attending the NGO committee this week & next.

A present from Henk

The TCC event on 25th January was held in the beautiful Medieval town of Gouda, and guess what they produce there cheese. So Henk very kindly gave me a gouda cheese as seen above. It was a great event. The next day, 26th January was Australia Day, which I could not celebrate as it took me all day to get home to Scotland. Yesterday I flew to New York to attend the NGO committee meeting.

TCC 5th birthday crowd

TCC 5th Birthday

On 25th January I flew to Holland to TCC's 5th anniversary celebrations. Henk and Todd had arranged a great evening where Gabriele Kuby gave the keynote address. I was introduced to the meeting by Henk. Around 120 people attended.

From her website , www.grabriele-Kuby.de  , see :

Gabriele Kuby is a German author and international speaker on the global sexual revolution and Christian spirituality. She studied sociology in the late 1960s at the Free University of Berlin and Constance, where she obtained a Masters Degree. For twenty years she worked as a translator and interpreter. Her conversion to Catholic faith in 1997 opened her eyes for the dangers of the sexual revolution. Her first critical analysis of the ideology of gender appeared in 2006. So far she has published twelve books. The Global Sexual Revolution - Destruction of Freedom in the Name of Freedom has been translated into eleven languages. Pope Benedict XVIth calls forth "a brave warrior against ideologies that ultimately results in the destruction of man."

As a sociologist, I observe the developments of our society; as a mother I committed to the future of the next generation; as a Catholic, I try to live what I believe. This includes good will towards people, even if I do not share their convictions. "

She spoke about her new book , The Global Sexual Revolution - Destruction of Freedom. Then there was a book signing and very nice reception to finish off the evening.I flew back to Scotland the next day.
